Join The Cleanup Club for a Lake Erie beach cleanup as we work together to protect our Great Lakes from plastic pollution in honor of World Ocean Day! 🌊
World Ocean Day (the Saturday before our event) is all about celebrating our world’s shared ocean while raising awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives. The ocean is Earth's life support system, covering 72% of the planet's surface and providing half of its oxygen while regulating climate, providing food, and supporting recreational opportunities that bring joy.
Similarly, our Great Lakes — which are connected to the ocean via the St. Lawrence Seaway — play a vital role in our global and local ecosystems.
Unfortunately, both the ocean and the Great Lakes are impacted by the evergrowing harms of plastic pollution. In fact, every year 22+ million pounds of plastic pollution enters our Great Lakes, with an estimated 5.5 million of that ending up in Lake Erie. Which is why we need your help in making an impact locally to positively impact our waterways globally! 🪣🧤

WHAT TO KNOW:
Our goal is to cleanup Lake Erie’s shoreline while having fun!
Everyone & anyone is welcome!
All cleanup materials will be provided.
Please bring along a reusable water bottle so you can stay hydrated with provided water refills without single-use plastic. 🌎
All trash we collect will be weighed, counted and categorized with the help of volunteers for Great Lakes plastic pollution research & advocacy efforts.
A state park fee will NOT be required. If there is an attendant at the entrance, please let them know you are participating in a volunteer cleanup event.
WHERE TO MEET:
We’ll be meeting on the beach. Drive to the south end of the park and park in the last parking lot (right before the camping area entrance) and walk to the beach.
