LAKE ERIE SPRING BEACH CLEANUP

  • Sterling State Park 2800 State Park Road Monroe, MI, 48162 United States (map)

Join The Cleanup Club for a spring beach cleanup as we work together to protect our Great Lakes from plastic pollution! 🌊

Every year 22+ million pounds of plastic pollution enters our Great Lakes, with an estimated 5.5 million of that ending up in Lake Erie. Last year, we collected over 35,000 pieces (!!!) of trash from our shorelines and our goal is to DOUBLE that impact this year! 🪣🧤

The winter season always stir up the Great Lakes, leaving lots of plastic items + microplastics washed up on the shoreline. Which is why we need your help for our first beach cleanup of the spring season!

A special thank you to our event sponsor: Me Mother Earth. We're so excited to share some of their incredible sustainable alternatives with you to help reduce plastic waste at home after leaving the cleanup. (Limited supplies.) 💙

WHAT TO KNOW:

  • Our goal is to cleanup Lake Erie’s shoreline while having fun!

  • Everyone & anyone is welcome!

  • All cleanup materials will be provided.

  • All trash we collect will be weighed, counted and categorized with the help of volunteers for Great Lakes plastic pollution research & advocacy efforts.

  • A state park fee will NOT be required. If there is an attendant at the entrance, please let them know you are participating in a volunteer cleanup event.

WHERE TO MEET:

  • We’ll be meeting on the beach. Drive to the south end of the park and park in the last parking lot (right before the camping area entrance) and walk to the beach.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • A reusable water bottle so you can stay hydrated with provided water refills without the single-use plastic! 🌎

  • Warm layers! The weather can still be chilly near the water this time of year, so dress with that in mind.

MEET OUR EVENT SPONSOR:

  • Me Mother Earth offers a thoughtful range of eco-friendly products to make plastic-free living easy. They believe everyone has the ability to make a positive impact on our Mother Earth — and we couldn’t agree more!

We hope to see you there! 😊
